Ingredient Notes

Creamy Boursin Chicken Pasta - 2
  • Bowtie pasta: This shape holds onto the sauce so nicely. Grab some fresh or dried; just avoid overcooking to keep it al dente!
  • Boursin Fine Herbs & Garlic cheese: It’s the star of the show! This creamy cheese melts beautifully. If you can’t find it, a mix of cream cheese with herbs works too.
  • Cooked rotisserie chicken: Using pre-cooked chicken saves time and adds great flavor. Look for juicy, well-seasoned options, or grill your own if you prefer!
  • Heavy cream: It brings that rich creaminess to the dish. If you’re looking for lighter options, half-and-half or whole milk can work, but you’ll lose some creaminess.
  • Fresh baby spinach: This adds a lovely pop of color and freshness to the dish. Buy it fresh and make sure it’s bright green and crisp for the best texture.

Recipe Tips

  • If the sauce becomes too thick, adding hot pasta water a little at a time helps reach the desired consistency.
  • When pasta sticks after draining, tossing it with just a teaspoon of olive oil can help keep it separated.
  • If the flavor seems lacking, adjusting with salt, pepper, or fresh herbs can really jazz things up.
  • For a creamy texture, using a high-quality Boursin cheese is great; it makes the sauce rich without extra work.
  • If you’re cooking for those with gluten sensitivities, using gluten-free pasta ensures everyone can enjoy this dish comfortably.

Serving Suggestions

  1. Serve boursin chicken pasta alongside garlic bread or crusty bread to complement the meal. Fresh salad adds a crisp element that pairs well with the dish.
  2. This pasta can also shine in other recipes like casseroles or as a filling for stuffed peppers. It works well in a pasta bake or as a topping for a homemade pizza.
  3. Add grated parmesan cheese on top for a finishing touch. A drizzle of olive oil can enhance the flavors before serving.

Storage Guidelines

  • To keep your boursin chicken pasta fresh, follow these storage tips:
  • Room Temperature: Store leftover pasta in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 hours. Discard any leftovers beyond this time.
  • Refrigeration: Place the pasta in an airtight container. Store in the fridge for up to 4 days. Reheat slowly over low heat.
  • Freezing: Wrap pasta in plastic wrap, then place in a freezer bag. Freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight before reheating.

Recipe Variations

  • You can use penne or fusilli instead of bowtie pasta for a different texture in your dish.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of dried oregano or 1 tablespoon of fresh chopped parsley for an herbaceous lift.
  • Either cooked shrimp or salmon can be substituted for the chicken, providing a seafood twist to this dish.
  • If making for fewer people, reduce the amount of pasta to 6 ounces and use 1.5 cups of cooked chicken.

Course: Dinner

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Pot for boiling pasta

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces uncooked bowtie pasta (227g)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (14g)
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 package Boursin Fine Herbs & Garlic cheese (5.2 ounce) (147g), softened
  • ¾ cup chicken broth (180ml)
  • ½ cup heavy/whipping cream (120ml)
  • ½ teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1-2 chopped fresh parsley (15-30ml)
  • 2 cups fresh baby spinach (packed)
  • 2 cups cooked/rotisserie chicken (300g), shredded
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • parmesan cheese Freshly grated, optional to taste

Instructions

  • Start by boiling water in a pot and adding in your bowtie pasta. Cook until al dente, which should take about 8-10 minutes. Add salt to the water before cooking for extra flavor.
  • In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute. Be careful not to burn the garlic, as it will taste bitter if overcooked.
  • Once the garlic is ready, add the softened Boursin cheese into the skillet and stir until it melts into a smooth, creamy texture. If the mixture is too thick, add a splash of chicken broth to loosen it.
  • Add the chicken broth and heavy cream to the skillet. Mix well until combined and you see a luscious sauce forming. Keep the heat low to ensure it does not boil.
  • Add the shredded chicken and fresh spinach to the skillet. Stir until the spinach wilts down, which should take a couple of minutes. Ensure everything is warmed through without overcooking the spinach.
  • Squeeze in the lemon juice and sprinkle in the onion powder and Italian seasoning. Taste the sauce and adjust with salt and pepper as needed.
  • Drain the cooked bowtie pasta and add it to the skillet with the sauce. Gently toss everything together, ensuring the pasta is well coated in the creamy sauce. If the mixture seems dry, add some hot pasta water to achieve the desired consistency.
  • Finish by sprinkling with fresh parsley and grated parmesan cheese, if desired. Serve hot and enjoy.

Notes

Store leftover Boursin chicken pasta in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Slowly reheat over low heat, adding a splash more cream or broth if needed.
If the sauce becomes too thick, gradually add hot pasta water to adjust the consistency.
If the pasta sticks together after draining, toss it with a teaspoon of olive oil to prevent clumping.
For enhanced flavor, adjust seasoning with salt, pepper, or fresh herbs as needed.
Using high-quality Boursin cheese results in a rich creamy texture without complicated techniques.
